Our Work
In the last 24 months, Gender Empowerment and Development (GeED) has been working to prevent School Related Gender Based
Violence (SRGBV) with 30 pilot schools selected randomly in 3 regions of Cameroon - Centre, South West and North West Regions.
The first phase of this project was to sensitize, create awareness and train teachers and students as well as identify the different
forms of SRGBV in their schools and school environment. During this period GeED identified the absence of psychosocial
counseling in schools as a serious problem as victims of gender based violence were left to live with the trauma without any
psychosocial support. In the next months GeED will be working with teachers and students to build their capacities on the
importance of psychosocial counseling, the characteristics of a good psychosocial counselor, the basic steps of psychosocial
counseling, etc. The first training within the framework of this phase was carried out in Bamenda in June 2014 and on the 17th -19th of July another training was organized with teachers and students of the South West Region in KING David’s Square Hotel in

Men and young boys are important partners to GeED. Some of these men are innovators and role model to other men and young boys in the process of fighting against gender based violence. Here are men in Makenene, men of the CNBC Church and other groups working actively and defining ways and strategies to fight gender based violence and empower their women.
