BACKGROUND
Gender Empowerment and Development (GeED) is a nongovernmental, nonprofit-making organization established in 2004, dedicated to improving the lives of women and youths through the promotion and protection of rights, capacity building, gender empowerment, networking, lobbying, and advocacy.
GeED has a special responsibility to make the link between gender and human rights, in lobbying and advocacy, and to also undertake training and sensitization program aimed at integrating gender from a human rights perspective for staff, communities, church groups, women’s groups, youth groups, men’s groups, schools, and school clubs.
Human rights and gender are conceptually and analytically interlinked frameworks that crosscut all development issues, and so GeED focuses on promoting gender mainstreaming and the use of a human rights-based approach at all levels.
Although gender and human rights are mainstreamed in all GeED’s work as approaches and as a framework of action, different projects and components of projects are being implemented to achieve the improvement of gender and human rights.
ORGANISATION
GeED is an organization consisting of 10 board members, representing civil society in Cameroon committed to improving the lives of women and youths. Some of its members operate internationally in emergencies, but not all.
VISION
See that sustainable development is effective through gender empowerment, human rights, and development. We believe that women’s roles are pivotal in any development process—and we work every day to ensure they are recognized, respected, and celebrated.
MISSION
To empower the population and promote gender equality, human rights, self-generated and sustaining processes of empowered well-being for women and youths through capacity building and support.
Our Core Values
To contribute meaningfully to Cameroon’s development by:
- Promoting gender-sensitive processes at all levels of society,
- Advocating for and protecting human rights, and
- Creating conscious awareness around gender equity, justice, and inclusion.
GeED is more than an organization — it’s a movement of changemakers, educators, and advocates working together to rewrite the story of gender in Cameroon.

Our Focus Areas
At GeED, we turn vision into action by empowering individuals, transforming mindsets, and strengthening communities. Our work is rooted in the belief that true development can only happen when gender equality and human rights are at the heart of every process.
We operate across the Centre, Littoral, and West Regions of Cameroon, with a strong presence in schools and local communities. Our approach is collaborative, inclusive, and focused on long-term impact.
Capacity Building
GeED strengthens community capacity through school clubs, Youth Volunteer Teams, and Community Action Groups. These platforms build leadership, rights awareness, and advocacy skills. We support individuals to become informed change agents who can contribute meaningfully to local development, gender justice, and inclusive social progress at every level.
Gender Mainstreaming
We embed gender equality into schools, policies, and community life. GeED’s gender-sensitive projects and awareness campaigns help dismantle stereotypes, promote equal opportunities, and prevent gender-based violence. Social drama is used creatively to confront and challenge harmful societal norms and foster inclusive mindsets across all community groups.
Role Model Programs
Our programs connect youth and women with role models to encourage leadership and peer learning. Gender Talk Shops offer safe spaces for girls to speak openly about challenges and rights. These initiatives support young women in developing confidence, breaking silence, and leading change in their communities.
In-House Training
GeED regularly equips its staff and volunteers with practical knowledge through targeted in-house training sessions. These sessions focus on key topics such as gender communication, program delivery, and evaluation. By investing in our team, we ensure effective service delivery and sustained organizational learning and improvement.
Media Sensitization
We use radio and TV to amplify gender justice messages. GeED partners with media houses to share real stories, challenge cultural norms, and raise public awareness. These interactive broadcasts also gather feedback, enabling the organization to tailor its responses to community concerns and field realities effectively.
Training Workshops
GeED organizes workshops for students, teachers, parents, and community leaders on topics like gender-based violence and rights education. These sessions equip participants with tools to create safer, more responsive environments. Our workshops promote dialogue, advocacy, and systemic change across schools and regional institutions in Cameroon.
